A while back I started buying homemade soap from a lady at the Salt Lake Farmer's Market. She calls herself "The Soap Lady". I love those soaps, there were dozens of different scents, my favorite was the one that smelled like a Christmas called Tis The Season, there was also a citrus one, Citrus Grove, that was wonderful. Then I discovered one with Tea Tree Oil in it and found that it was the best soap for shaving your legs. Anyway, I was spending a small fortune on various soaps and it began to seem to me that if she could make soap in her house, why couldn't I make soap in my house? Why not!
I started researching and it really didn't seem like it would be that hard to do. I decided Cold Process Soaps would be the best way to start for me and I found a class at the local high school. I found a couple of places in Utah that I could get my supplies from. I looked for a mold that would give me similar size slices of soap that the Soap Lady uses and that's when I ran into a problem. There are dozens of different wooden soap boxes all of them say they are 3 pound soap boxes or 5 pound soap boxes, but none of them are the same dimensions and even worse when you figure out the volumes of each of them they are all totally different, so everyone of them would hold a different amount of soap. So with not much more than pictures on the internet I set out to make my own boxes and I do believe that I have come up with some of the best boxes out there. My 3 pound box holds a 3 pound recipe perfectly. It has hinges on all 4 sides so that once the soap sets up and starts to harden you can easily open up the box and remove the soap.
My second box is really cool. It is hinged all around like the 3 pound box, but this box is set up to make 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 pound batches of soap. You can also do 2 or 3 different small (2 pound) batches in the box at the same time. Both boxes have lids.
I took pictures of my boxes to my Soap Class and was told that I should sell them. So if you would like one, please contact me through this email.
